Report:
Club Confidential:
Chicago

I randomly rounded up a few escorts on the phone, all of what appeared to be different background, and put them at a proverbial roundtable. (I had to keep telling one to get out from UNDER the table. Jeesh...)

This column is about what it is like to live and love as a RentBoy and make choices every day that matter alot and some not so much. So I  asked them questions that are traditionally asked of people in this profession, but also a few things that could show there is much more to them then meets they eye...

I just called eight escorts that I randomly picked. I closed my eyes and clicked on a RentBoy city and then went to the third of seventh one.

I set out with this piece to show that there is so much more than a face or stage name from a listing. These questions were to show eight different points of view on the same question from different areas of the United States.

I asked the escorts to tell me their first response, I did not want "thought" out e-mailed answers, so I called them. I think it gives you more of what they really were thinking.

Some of the answers surprised me, some were right inline with what I thought? What about you?

So pretend you are at the RentBoy Roundtable with me and these eight boys. I caught them all at different parts of their day, one was driving and after question five, got pulled over, got a speeding ticket and then called me back to finish up. THAT is dedication. *whew*

Does your personal sexuality play a big part in what you do?

(When I asked this I was thinking to myself, how do the straight boys do it? Does it even factor in for them? blah, blah... What I found surprised me. But most of the "yes's" did not elaborate.)

Angel Lopez says yes.

Cory Armstrong says yes too.

Chris from says: Oh shit, I can not read my notes, I think it says "someone"? ??? Oh yea, now I remember, he gave me a good one for this. He said "Why is a whole long story and 'nother reason. I got into it for sexual exploration and experience. I stayed because of the money. I think that was one of my favorite answers. Well done. Kudos.

Hank from says (and blew me out of the water on this one....) I could not write that fast, so excuse me, he said, "...that term should not apply." He does not pass judgment, so he hopes for the same. He said, "It is all reality and we are all sexual." *tear* I would guess you would HAVE to think that way to do what we do. All I can say is: "With a phone number like 877-GYM-DUDE, this one is on his game. Well and mind too..."

Trey Rexx says sex is sex, it is raw and even though people say it doesn't, it does. I am finding out the contrary.

and Zack says: "Yes."

I guess I missed something here, I did not think it was a yes or no question.

What is one precaution you take when you take a call for "work"?

Angel Lopez says he leaves the address and number with a friend.

Cory Armstrong says: "I always make sure they are cool on the phone."

Chris from says: "You mean like safe sex?" I said, "I mean whatever you choose to answer. He followed it up with making sure that it is a legitimate call, getting a confirmation and understanding. Good one!

Troy from says he listens to the voices in his head, oh no that me, sorry. He listens to the voices on the phone. He mentioned that you can usually tell. I say, "Big words mean big dollars in college huh?"

Hank from says he listens carefully to the voice as well. I think we have a winner here, it's voices. I hear them all the time.

Trey Rexx says he uses caution. Dare I say, I think Trey is a professional at this, I bet MAY have an idea.

Antonio says: "I am a big dude, I don't worry about much." Can I keep HIM around?

and Zack says he leaves the number with one of the other two escorts he lives with. He has this "network" thing going on. COOL! While I talked to him about how he did that, he told me that he had a friend drop him off all the time, sometimes they wait, he gives them part of the money. This part was cool too, one of the other escorts in the den of inequity I so called (wink) got on the line and wanted to make sure I said something about verifying on the phone at a hotel or house before you go there, much can be said for that.

So, voice number two, Go and take a look at the letter "V" in the lower portion of this column titled, "All I ever needed to know, I learned from RentBoy Kindergarten." Thanks.

What is a bad experience you have had?

Angel Lopez says he had an in call that AFTER the time was done, the client did not have any money. YIKE! Cory Armstrong says he hasn't had any.

Chris from says: "This guy that was cracked out...."

Troy from says "...when people don't pay you." So it sounds like that has happened to people, how do you handle it? Operators are standing by now to take your call at 504-319-6487 or e-mail me at BrandonBakerXXX@aol.com.

Hank from says Oops, I forgot to ask him this one. Call him. 1-877-GYM-DUDE. (wink)

Trey Rexx says it is bad when they are TOO nervous.

Antonio says it would be when he did not understand what a client wanted.

and Zack says ..." kinda expect bad so I think I just expect'd it."

Do you know the laws where (the city) you are advertising in?

This TOTALLY intrigued me, most of us do not know the laws in the very city we work in. To that end, I will embark on that in another issue soon, so stay tuned for resources on that issue. Quite honestly, even if they said yes when I asked this question, they could not back it up with where. I want to know WHERE can we find out about that stuff. I did find some internet resources, but not what I was looking for.

I also found out that some cities have escort licenses.

Angel Lopez says: "Yea." when I probed on this one and asked how and where he knew where to look for that information he said, "I got busted for it." Yup, that'll do it. I may use him again in that piece.

Cory Armstrong says he used to run an agency so he knows all about them.

Chris from says with a very honest answer that I admire, "...not specifically."  Chris in a few weeks, we will find out.

Troy from says "Pretty much."

Hank from says I know the NYC laws." "Well girl, we are not in Kansas anymore. Sorry that was the drag queen in my coming out, down girl!"

Trey Rexx says pretty much. He remembers when the escort license only cast $50 bucks now it is $200.

Antonio says "I know it is illegal."

and Zack says "for the most part, yea." When I asked HOW he found them out, he said his friends helped him. Man that sounds like quite a team over there.

What did you have for lunch yesterday?

Here I was thinking most escorts probably eat healthy. Just wanted to verify that my metabolism if STRAIGHT from the Gods!

Angel Lopez ate chicken, rice and vegetables.

Cory Armstrong ate Cod.

Chris ate chicken salad, a protein bar, a protein shake, a bagel and yogurt. YUM! I want to eat at his house.

Troy ate a turkey sandwich.

Hank ate a hamburger. (That is what I always say too. (wink)

Trey Rexx ate cheese steak.

Antonio ate a sandwich, no he forgot, no he did not eat lunch. Whichever works for you right?

and Zack ate, like I would, he had pizza.

If you need anything I will be at Zacks to eat! (wink)

Why do you escort?

The obvious prevailed on this one.

Angel Lopez says money.

Cory Armstrong says money.

Chris says different reasons, but mainly sexual exploration.

Troy from says turkey. Oh no, that is what he ate for lunch.

Hank from says he started as a masseur and he likes to push limits so he did. He also dated someone who was an escort. He said he feels that the industry gets a bad wrap, it is natural, the business is not like it is portrayed. "Can I get a HOORAY!" That is the VERY reason I do what I do AND the reason I write this column. Well said.

Trey Rexx says (and when he says it, it usually goes...) financial reasons, then I gut used to it. I know, honey, I know. ARGH!

Antonio says he used to have a normal job, but you have to work for so long.

and Zack says "It's good money man. You don't have to work alot."

How do you decide your rate?

Angel Lopez says: "Outcalls are $300, in calls are $250."

When I asked why he said because there is no travel time and hassle.

I have heard it both ways, I have also heard that, "You are coming to my house, it is more..."

So escorts remember to consider it when you make your prices. It depends on how you want to structure your time.

Cory Armstrong says: "It has always been that." YIKE, I did not mean to question it boo, I just want to help someone understand what goes into it. He says his work as a Playgirl model and stripping helps.

Chris says: It is based on what is out there, you know, supply and demand."

Troy says "It is part what you look like..." Yes I agree.

Hank says: "I base it on what I charged in NYC, they charge a bit less down here in Palm Springs but you know, {can you tell I am quoting?} people will pay for what you are worth." I agree. "That'll be a million dollars please." (wink) I think I just heard someone say they have a nickel.

Trey Rexx says he looks at each city he goes to.

Antonio says: "I do not escort, I am a masseur so mine is a little different." COOL. I like that point of view as well. I base it on how far I have to travel. A local is about $100.00.

and Zack says his in calls run about $150 and outcalls at $200. When I asked him about the difference he said the same thing as Angel.

What did you do before escorting?

Cory Armstrong says "I was a stripper."

Chris from was a "product development chemist" I can not even SAY it.

Troy from says he likes to keep it personal. And I do respect that. It kinda cracks me up, I just called these boys up and I could have well been a policeman for all they know. 'Cause you KNOW when I say, "Brandon Baker" they are like, "Who the fuck is that? Do you KNOW who I think I am? (wink) That was the only held back response I had though.

Hank from says (and I must ask - what is with all these 3 part jobs, whatever happened to trucker?) Jeesh.... okay I hope I get this right too - an air national marketing something. Yeah, that's it.

Trey Rexx was and still is a painter.
Antonio
was a bookkeeper.

and Zack says [AND HERE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN IS THE PRIZE-WINNING ANSWER] - he took a bit of a sigh and said, "I shower and shave." How cute is that? PRECIOUS! Then he said, "Oh, construction, Subway, you know." I had to say, "Like the sandwich place or the underground thing..."

What did I learn from this?

Honestly - that escorts don't answer their phone. ARGH! I called 15 escorts. 5 answered when I called. 2 called me back from voicemail. I called be back after he was done with the police officer. I can only imagine what it must be like trying to find a companion and having that happen. My apologies for every time I did not answer my phone.

I am glad I did it, those 16 eyes helped me gain some insight to what we do. (whew) I need another glass of chocolate milk.

I think it would be cool to do something like this from a clients perspective as well. If you are a client and might be interested in answering some questions for me sometime, please shoot me an e-mail at Brandon@RentBoy.com
